An Event With

AI Governance in Fixed Income Surveillance · Behavox ICMA 2026 Breakout Session

Date: May 28, 2026

Time: 11:50 AM to 12:35 PM BST

Location: Moore Room, 4th Floor, Queen Elizabeth II Centre, Broad Sanctuary, London

AI that detects. AI that explains. AI that passes the exam.

A breakout session for fixed income surveillance, conduct risk, and model risk leaders.

Session Topic: AI Governance in Fixed Income Surveillance: From Model Risk to Regulatory Examination Readiness

The conduct risk question in fixed income has changed. The relevant question is no longer whether AI can detect more. It is whether the AI a firm has already deployed is defensible: in front of internal model risk committees, in supervisory examinations, and in front of investors who increasingly expect demonstrable controls.

Voice and chat coverage, wall crossing call workflows, primary issuance and repo dynamics, and sustainable finance communications all push fixed income surveillance into territory that generic AI governance frameworks were not built to handle. The FCA and PRA have moved. So have the EU AI Act, FCA DP5/22, and Bank of England supervisory frameworks. This session is built for leaders working through that gap right now.

Topics Covered

  • The governance standards firms should apply to AI enabled surveillance systems in fixed income markets
  • Practical approaches to model validation, residual risk management, and accountability in MAR and MiFID II contexts
  • Preparing for regulatory examinations and demonstrating surveillance programme effectiveness efficiently and credibly
  • Fixed income specific surveillance challenges: repo, primary issuance, cross border bond trading, sustainable finance communications
  • What constitutes a well governed AI surveillance programme and the industry’s direction of travel

“In fixed income, the highest-risk conduct happens in the gaps between systems: the wall-crossing call, the voice trade, the Bloomberg chat before the order. AI that covers the electronic flow but not the context around it isn’t really surveillance.”- John Showell, Behavox
